YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
NUTRITION IS A VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR IN YOUR HEALTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY.
To be successful with any goal you have, whether it be losing weight, gaining muscle tissue or sports performance, you have to have some idea where your calories are coming from:
Counting your calories (macronutrients), which come from carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.
1 gram of carbs = 4 calories
1 gram of protein = 4 calories
1 gram of fat = 9 calories
Example: If your total intake of carbs for the day is 125 grams, your calorie intake from carbs for the day would be (125 grams x 4 calories ) 500 calories.
AMINO ACIDS
Amino acids are The building blocks of protein. Each amino acid molecule contains a carbon atom bound to a hydrogenatom, an amino group, an acid group and a side chain.
Two types or classifications of amino acids:
- 11 non essential ( the body produces them)
- 9 essential ( must get an outside source, from food)
- 20 total amino acids to make a complete protein
* If one or more of the essential amino acids is missing, it is an incomplete protein.
